About Us

Growing up on a dairy farm in Minnesota taught Melissa L. Miranda something most accountants never learn in school. Numbers aren’t just data. They’re the difference between a family that thrives and one that doesn’t.

That conviction became a career, and eventually a firm. Melissa founded Step By Step Accounting in 2020 to give business owners a trusted financial partner who translates numbers into confidence, decisions, and peace of mind. Today she leads a team of professionals serving business owners across North Dakota, Minnesota, and the United States, helping hundreds of companies strengthen cash flow, improve profitability, and bring real order to the financial side of their business.

Melissa graduated magna cum laude from North Dakota State University in 2012 with a double major in accounting and business administration. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a three-time Top 100 QuickBooks ProAdvisor, a Gusto Certified People Advisor, and a Bill.com Certified Partner. In 2024 she was named a Top 25 Women in Business by Prairie Business Magazine. She teaches tax at Concordia University and has spoken regionally and nationally on entrepreneurial mental health, women in business, and building companies that last.

She believes strong businesses create strong families, and strong families create stronger communities.

Outside the office, Melissa is a wife to Andre and a boy mom to Luis, Liam, and Lucas. She sings in her church choir and travels to Brazil to visit family.
